Back Home

This week is the much waited week that I have been looking forward to since the first week of my enrolment to the uni. The mid-sem break is my only window of opportunity to escape life in KB and to really enjoy a city life (not as cool as KL though). But the journey back home is a tough one. Went 2 hours earlier to the airport to catch the 3pm flight to KL. Well, sentiments aside, I know that KB literally closes up briefly on Friday afternoon to give way for the prayers - even the mall. Shockingly (I need better words for these), even the airport closes up. I am just clueless of what to say. Then I thought that everything would be fine after that. No! 15 minutes delay on my KL flight. Shit happens... but I am not bother. The excitation of going home did not deter my spirit. Off to KL then. A bit of turbulence and safely arrived at 4.20pm. My next flight to Miri was 7.00pm. Plenty of time. So grab an early dinner before checking in. The queue was a 20 minutes wait. So I headed to the departure hall instantly. It was 6.15pm then. Wait, wait, wait... then it was 7.00pm. No sight of the airplane. "Ding-dong! Due to the late arrival of the aircraft, the flight to Miri will be delay. The aircraft is expected to arrive at 7.35pm. Sorry for the inconvenience." WTF?! From worse becomes the worst. The plane arrived much lated than expected. Around 8.00pm, the plane taxied in front of the terminal. As if the delay was not enough, the plane had to wait for the busy air traffic for about 15 minutes. Only then, we have take off. The bad weather made the ride rough. Turbulence and more turbulence, practically through out the way. Thankfully, I have arrived in Miri in one piece around 11.30pm. So much for the expectation...

Bad Day

What's the worse thing that could happen to you in a day of your pathetic life? Shit do happen and most of the time they suck... big time. I gotten into something bad today (I don't really feel comfortable to share this one out). The worst part is that my friends are involved and took the blame as well. I felt really, really, really guilty for it. But I'll try to make up for it. And you have no idea how bad today is for me...

PC Fair.... Really?

Yes, KB has PC Fair (not sure whether this PC fair was the first in Kelantan). I guess it is not necessary for me to mention where the venue is - really, where else KB people would rather have the fair other than KB Mall. PIKOM PC Fair is an annual event which I really looking forward to go to. At my hometown that is... This year will be my first on going to the fair outside my hometown. Much comparisons were done and I didn't expect much from KB's PC fair. I guess I have expected to much. To my surprise, the PC fair is as big as its pasar malam! What the heck! The offers are quite okay, given that there are lesser choices to choose from. Well, it's not like anticipate from the PC fair since I didn't actually have anything to buy from the fair. It began last Thursdsay (they must obey the local customs here, you know, the Friday weekends...) and will end as for tonight. Okay I need to fix my damn non-functioning touchpad here. Till then, ciao!

Throngs of KB people on bargain hunting.

Seeing is believing. That's how big (I'd say small) it is!

A satisfied customer... (hope you don't mind the blur)

A Night of Uncertainty

At last, managed to squeeze some time to blog. This apparent hiatus (not intended) is mainly due to assignments and too much fun. Let's talk about my food science practical (I think it's more like a cooking class). Last Wednesday, my group had done some kind of casserole out of instant noodles - hard to chew, right? Well, even though I contribute on the making of the food, I don't really took pride for it. But we had fun, which is the important part of it. Most of us were on camera-whore mode at that time. Wicked!

The class in session. Obviously someone is not paying attention.

Camera whore!

Preparing the so-called casserole.

The end product. Presenting... Maggi ala Casserole.

Then out of boredom, we went out last night to China Street (Chinatown seemed inappropiate to me due to its small scale). And I gorged myself with wantan mee. It wasn't that good, not that I expect too much but that's enough for me to miss home (Wee! Will be heading home next week).

Wantan Mee. Not so appetizing.

As promised I have taken some photos of the pasar malam here. The pics taken are from Friday's pasar malam. I wouldn't judge much since not many stalls were open. Don't know why but was not bothered.

The people..

More people...

Side show freaks.

Then we decided to have dinner at the nearby stall, since there was nothing much to eat at the stall. So we go on to search for a good stall - we were sick of eating at the same stall every time having dinner. I quote from Max, "I realise I eat to survive." So much on eating for pleasure. Then we went to great distance for that search when suddenly a random idea jus popped out. Hey, let's have pizza instead. Quickly, I get a car to rent (huge gratitude to Max for allowing me to "max" out his phone bills - sorry, it wa an emergency case since I was low on credit). Crazy but true, we went out without proper planning. Thank God we're still alive. Which reminds me of that F**KING compound that I have to pay for neglecting the parking fee. Enough rants for today. Need to leech something out of the net. Ciao!

Pasar Malam

Ah! Yet another tiring week. Shit happens though. Anyway I've been busy doing my assignment these couple of days. Don't really want to talk about it, really irritates me now. Well, let's get to the highlights. Last evening, I had experienced my first Monday night market in Kubang Kerian - somewhere nearby campus. The Monday one is slightly larger than the Friday's, though I've expected it to be larger. Then I have noticed a similar trend to both pasar malams. There is seemed to be a list of food that they must offer: murtabak ayam, fried chicken, roti john, kuih manja, and fried noodles. Speaking of murtabak ayam (let me quote from Max), it should have been murtabak TELUR ayam because all I see them added in is eggs and there's not even a hint of chicken mat inside. I won't need to rant on the food since Max got me covered. I should have taken some pics of the night market but have forgotten. Hopefully I'll get it next time. And another thing that I notice at the Monday pasar malam in particular. Beggers. Not such a big fan of beggers - considered them as parasite. They really grow in numbers during fasting season. But I just ignore them. This act may seemed cruel but there are some limitations to it you know. Well, one more hype thing. Hannah Tan soon to release her new album and had released her debut single, I Don't Wanna Be. Plus got music video too. Can't wait to grab on those. Check out at her official site. Wee! That done for today. Ciao!

So Screwed...

I had pondered of how relaxed I was during these past few days. Since Wednesday night, I went out almost everday - even today. And you won't need to know how much I have spent already. Roughly I'd say RM 1500 and I'm no rich kid. Talk about financial suicide. And yeah, screw me for buying the new phone - as I have mentioned on the earlier post. So I decided not to go out until the day before I go back. I need money to buy souvenirs for my folks at home. They kept on bugging me to buy something memorable. It's not like I'm gonna make it so memorable here. But anyway I had fun and I have no regrets (I recalled on William Hung - I quote, "I had done my best. I have no regrets"). This afternoon, we went out and it was Max's first outing to the town (I'd be damned). Having used to the comforts of Starbucks - which is a mutual interest of the both of us, he found it rather difficult to go through life here in KB. I may be exaggerating but it's true. Another first, I drive around KB - because usually my friends would drive. It was the first time for me to drive on the crazy KB roads, given that the drivers are not familiar to the road ethics. Back to the story. After lunch at the local Chinatown, we headed to the only hope of KB - KB Mall. Later, Max was revealed to the true splendour of urban living in Kelantan. Behold, Secret Recipe. The only chance of having a cup of nicely brewed coffee. Better than the local eateries. Too bad, no cake of the month. But I have savoured myself with one of my favourites, Marble Cheese Cake. This reminded me to notify you guys about something. In contrary to common beliefs about Kelantan, FHM (Malaysia) are sold here in this very Islamic state. Even I was (delightfully) surprised. But then again, I was really glad since I am regular reader of FHM. I guess I have nothing much to say and I need some eyeshut. Got class tomorrow. Yes, a class on Sunday. Really need to get used to that.
Some of the pics that I've managed to grab today:

I'm Back!

Alas, exam's over and no more on study hiatus. I've finished exam yesterday already and planned to update my blog last night. But I was unavailable then - will explain the details later. Anyway, I've just received my study loan, allowing me to have more money for shopping. LOL! Well, I will spend that money wisely, of course. But you just can't resist the urge to have fun with those money. First in my must-buy list is a Motorola RAZR V3i. Hopefully can get it by this weekend. Then my laptop had gotten a very serious "bug" - unstoppable especially in the guys' dorm - Counter-Strike. Yes, this malicious virus very rampant and contagious. Among the symptoms are serious addiction to kill people and sitting in front of the computer for long hours. Even though exam was around the corner, that didn't stop the guys' to battle it out in the digital warfare. And at some point, my room was fully utilised that it actually became a cyber cafe. Talk about business opportunity. Quite a lot of things happen during the hiatus but the last two days was the busiest. Let's begin from Wednesday morning. I had class then as usual which started 10pm and ended at 5pm. Then I went out for dinner - somewhere nearby my campus. After finished dinner around 9pm, my friends asked me out to have supper downtown. I agreed. It was almost 10pm then. We had supper in large group (about 16 of us) and literally we stormed in the cafe at that time. The place was Noodle Station - they serve good food and it's nice place to eat. We were having fun then, to point we made a dare to eat a spoon-full of chilli powder. Ouch! And someone actually took it. Reward? A decent Vanilla Ice Blended drink. Worth it? You be the judge. That friend of mine, Glenn, courageously scooped a spoon of chii=lli powder and shoved it to his mouth. He kept his cool. Then seconds later he quickly grabbed a glass filled with ice and finished it. That was not enough. He demanded his drink to be served quickly and I pressured the waiter to get him the ice blended drink. He just couldn't stand it. He got into the restroom to do I-don't-what-is-he-is-doing-inside-there-to-cool-off-the-heat. Really, he was "on fire". He was sweating, his lips are Jolie-like, his face and even his eyes are red. Poor guy. He really deserved his drink. Then we had crazy idea to go to a nearby resort and stay in. And so we did. We headed to Pantai Cahaya Bulan and stayed in Perdana Resort. After checked in to the chalet, we headed to the beach. We spent the whole night (and wee hours of the morning) at the beach, chatting and singing and play some more. Having so much fun was really tiring and we retired to the chalet around 4am. As the girls retired to the bed early, the guys stayed on to have a game of blackjack (small stakes only). And as for me, I decided to stay up to watch the sun rise. Some of the guys joined along. The break of day was around 6am and it was magnificent. I had some private time alone to reflect on something - feeling emo again. Then we went back (I've paid for the chalet but I didn't get to use it). On our way back, we ran out of gas. SHIT! Just our luck. Thankfully there was a gas station nearby and we hit the road soon after. As we have reached our dorm, I went back to my room and played CS awhile before actually go to bed (my every energy was dispensed). After waking up around 4.30pm, my friend asked me to grab dinner outside. And again, I said yes. Went there around 6pm till 8pm, I went to the mall with my friends around 9.30pm. But it was a waste. As we arrived there, most of the stores began to close already. So much for the shopping plan - we'll leave that for later today. Then, we took supper at the Noodle Station again (we love it there) before reaching back around 12am. Phew! That's about it. And I'll go out later in the morning. So if you think Jack Bauer was having rough day, then I'm having it too. Now, I'm really exhausted. I typed this entry slowly, I couldn't construct the words properly and I don't know what am I typing about. Well, I'll post next time then - when I'm not really tired.

Weekend in KB

Simply ridiculous to have a weekend here in Kelantan. This morning I was reminded about that. I was listening to the radio then, while going out to town. The deejay was babbling about a busy weekdays' labour and rejoiced on the end of the week, which is Friday night. I gave it a thought, since I thought yesterday was Friday night. Then it struck me. Tonight IS Friday night. But what the hell. I'm not bothered about it anyway. But then there's the mall. Any mall will open daily without fail and this includes KB Mall. And there's a catch. On Fridays (Friday is a day of mass prayer for the Muslims), the mall temporarily closes at 1 pm and resumes at 2 pm. WTF! I recalled that day when I was shopping for a bag, an announcement was made out for the shoppers to leave due to their temporary closure - finally I bought a bag today and it's a nice looking bag. Now that I know of that ruling, I was more prepared. So I made my shoppings earlier and headed back to campus earlier. But our car ran low on fuel and decided to stopover the gas station. Guess what happened? Even the gas station is freakin' closed! I simply can't believe this nonsense. Isn't gas stations suppose to open 24 hours... without fail. Yet another thing to get use to. Well, different place, different culture. And as if we don't have enough birthdays for this week... So...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STACY!

There you go. Hope you happy (always). One more thing, I'll be on study hiatus as from this blog entry. Don't worry, I'll resume soon after the exam. Wish me luck!

Belated Birthday Present

Wow, quite a lot of stuff I need to cover here. I've been quite busy for the past three days (explains why I didn't update my blog these days). Before I began I need to say this out:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WAN SUN!

Sorry that I couldn't get you any present or card but I sure do have this specially dedicated blog entry. Now to my side of the story. Last Monday night, our class had decided to make a birthday bash for a fellow coursemate, Wan Sun. We had the dinner at one of the famous eatery nearby, namely D'Village. Well, I don't expect much but at least we had a good time. And I think I won't need to talk much about it since I have some pics of that night posted here.
Then last night I had my Christian Fellowship (CF) meeting last night... and shortly after that I've joined my CF seniors for supper, also at D'Village (there's not much option available here). We share a lot of stuff at that time, including the existance of an underground pub in KB plus the best foods in KB. I took those as good leads of info for me. Then I hooked up with Max and we've chatted all night long - something I didn't had for quite awhile. I never had been that moody before since I came here. Seriously that I had expressed everything out last night. Come to think of it, it seemed like a pillow talk. LOL! And tonight is a weekend for us. I'm still getting use to this concept of Friday night on Thursday night. Worse still, my friends have dinner gathering tonight, leaving a sad, bored fellow alone... Boo-hoo!
